La Casa de la Artista is an immersion travel program which works with schools and organizations all over the world to provide free educational workshops in arts, English, social emotional learning, agricultural, cultural awareness, exercise, yoga and wellness and sex education where allowed.
Artists are provided with room and board and ten meals per week as well as possible opportunities for exhibition, performance and vending. Artists become part of a community of three to twenty artists (depending on location) and are encouraged to explore their new surroundings, network and create however for each week that they stay with us they must teach a minimum of ten hours of free youth programming.

At La Casa de la Artista we strive to improve the lives of our artists by empowering them with the gift of travel.
Experiencing the world through a different environment is one of the most productive things an artist can do for their career. We believe strongly in the role of the artist to inflict change upon a society and promote understanding and awareness. Unlike many "teach abroad programs" we encourage our artists to go home and invest in their communities by providing free community workshops at home as well. We help our artists to prepare lesson plans and create dynamic workshops. Our focus is education. Education of self and education of youth.

Each residency has a house manager that is available for your questions and to assist you during your stay. They cook your meals, clean your space, get you to and from the airport and provide you with any information you need while there. During your stay at La Casa de la Artista you are truly able to focus on creating, connecting and teaching. Our programming is not valued by your level of education completed or number of solo exhibitions. We are seeking artists that are going to go the extra mile and give back in schools, workshops, churches and community centers. We are also looking for artists that will use the time to focus and create while abroad. This is a time to focus on your work 100%.

We work to assist our artists in career development, performances and exhibitions. For artists that are with us for one to three months we work to coordinate opportunities to exhibit, vend or perform while they are abroad as well. Each location is vastly different and has been chosen for its cultural attribute, educational need and safety. Tell us what you would like to accomplish during your residency and afterwards.

La Casa de la Artista is a fiscally sponsored program by Fractured Atlas. Donations are tax-deductible and welcomed. You can support one of our scholarship programs below or if there is someone you would like to honor or a population in particular you would like to reach you can build your own scholarship

18th & May Scholarship Fund

A tribute to the founder, Colombian artist Andres Contreras the 18th and May Scholarship Fund goes towards benefiting artists and creatives from the Chicago area. Named after the intersection and city where La Casa de la Artista was founded this scholarship is open to artists of all disciplines, backgrounds and artistic levels. Recipients will be selected on their talent, drive and desire to give back to Chicago communities. Recipients agree to teach no less than 200 hrs of free education in the city of Chicago in a one calendar year period. To make a tax-free donation to this project please click here.

Kings and Queens Scholarship
In honor Memphis hip hop artist Avenging Wind and in solidarity with #blacklivesmatter this scholarship goes towards benefiting artists of African descent living in the United States and working on socially conscious projects that will directly benefit black communities. Artists may be of any discipline, educational background and skill level, however they must be willing to complete a three month residency abroad and show a tenacious work-ethic and dedication to their craft. . Recipients agree to teach no less than 240 hrs of free education within one year of completion of the program . To make a tax-free donation to this project please click here.

Create Your Own Scholarship
All scholarships provide residency fees and meals for artists while they are abroad. No travel is included. If you would like to create a scholarship fund to benefit artists of a certain medium, community, ethnic or social background we encourage you to do so. You will choose the award amount, title and if it is recurring or not. This is a great way to honor someone that has made a great accomplishment or has passed away. The teaching artists that receive a scholarship are required to teach twice as many hours and must commit to a full three month residency abroad to gain the full experience. If you would like to design your own scholarship for a donation of $500 or more please donate here and email us at lacasadelaartistas@gmail.com with your specifications.
